Scavenger Hunt

I had a fun time doing the scavenger hunt in class. It was interesting to learn a lot about different organizations. What I found easiest from this task was finding the information. With the internet you can find everything so it wasn't hard to find the answers. I had fun with my partner. We were on task the whole time. No, I liked being with my partner because we both would be doing the same amount of work.  Yes, I think so because every question in the scavenger hunt had to do with the the overviews of the chapter. I had fun doing this scavenger hunt.

NCAA Amateurism?

NCAA places a high standard of preserving athletic amateurism. They do so in hopes that it will keep an equal standard among schools and so that smaller market schools don't get kicked out for not being able to afford to pay the athletes. They also believe that its important to preserve an athletes amateurism. D1, D2  AND D3 all place a high standard on preserving athletic amateurism. What do you think is the a good idea should we pay the the athletes or not?

Rajon Rondo goes to Children's Hospital

Before being traded to the Dallas Mavericks, rajon rondo spent his day at children's hospital in Boston. He visited patients and gave away Autographs to younger fans that look up to him.

This event helps market the team by showing the public that these athletes are just like regular people and care about kids that are sick and don't have much to look forward to. This also can boost ticket sales because people might now go to celtics games because there players attract people by showing they care.

Women s rights

The Lavender article was written by Catherine Lavender was written to show what the Ideal women should be like in 1910. She had four main ideas for the ideal women. submissiveness, Domesticity, Piety, and Purity. For submissiveness she talks about clothing that the women were supposed to wear. The tight corset lacing that pinched organs together. The corset caused extreme fatigue and women passed out all the time. That is why people thought that women were the weaker sex. Domesticity she talks about what the women role is in the house and that her only role is to be busy and morally uplifting. Women have to keep the house cheerful and peaceful to attract men from the evil outside of the house. Catherine talks about piety as well and about religion and how it is good for a woman's life. She talks about purity as well. There were rumors of mothers that were not married and their babies would punished by god. Female purity was used as a weapon as well to be used to keep men in control of their sexual needs. She also talked about the public and private sphere. The public Sphere was violent and full of temptations for the women and the private sphere was the women took charge.

The Seneca convention was a group of men and women , mostly women, who wanted to change the way women were treated in America. The declaration of Sentiments of Resolutions was like the Declaration of Independence because its like the break up with Great Britain. The womens suffrage was controversial because the it brought up different problems in different groups like slaves, poor and immigrants. A voice left out at the convention was the African American slave women. In class each group had a different group of people looking for rights that had to do directly with them. My group was the African American slave women. Our main point was to end slavery. The most important resolution i thought was to end sklaver and i was a little upset that it wasnt are first most important thing to end but it was our second so i was ok with it. I thought this was a fun and interesting unit.

The Rebellious Luddites

People who don't know who the Luddites are get confused on what a Luddite actually believed in. The Luddites were a group of factory workers that were upset with the work hours and wages so they decided to protest. The first protest happened April 1812 some British troops were ordered to shoot at some of them and a couple of them died. they got very upset and decided to destroy equipment in mills and knitting machines. They would raid those technology places and destroy the machines to protest. A picture is shown at bottom. Bellow is a primary source, a letter from a skilled weaver named Henry to his cousin describing the situation the Luddites have put him in.

Dearest cousin Al,

I have some bad news to share with you. I have been put in a situation that I wish I wasn't in. I have to decide if I believe in the luddite. I know that your biggest decision is probably choosing what your getting off the dollar menus but this is serious. I don't know if I believe in everything they are for. I do think that I need better hours and a lot more of them because I have a family to provide for. I am being forced to decide by tomorrow. I will write to you soon on my decision but I have a long night ahead.

Your dearest cousin,

Russell
